Właśnie przypomniałem sobie, że mam kilka oryginałów płyty Mani Planzer's MorsCHachBlasOrchester 'Modaladon'. Oddam w dobre ręcę, zamienię na inne równie dobre płyty (jeden oryginał oczywiście zostawiam sobie). Mi się podoba.

Cytat: | Mani Planzer's vanguard big band is made up of winds, reeds, brass, a bassist, and a cellist. From the title you may have guessed his interest in modalism. But this isn't any modalism you've heard in a jazz context before. Look out A Tribe Called Quest: these cats have come up with a brand-new low-end theory that seems to come from the center of the earth. Everything here rumbles and trembles, shakes and shivers from the sheer force of the eternal bottom that Planzer creates with the trombones, tubas, and saxophones. From the percussive never-ending rhythm on "Transbirit" comes a shock of brass riding an end so high one might think it was commanded by La Monte Young. Flutes fly through with minute bird songs, and an alto or a soprano runs through an angular set of arpeggios atop the rumbling maelstrom. On the title track, the droning modalism is even more strident, using the resulting overtones and timbral structures to equate new drones, which in turn create new ones, and so on. One is reminded of the brass music of Giacinto Scelsi, with these drones being seduced by cascading saxophones and accenting trumpets playing in counterpoint with a completely different set of harmonics at their disposal. Eventually the work moves to the center, where the low end consumes everything, though the pitches remain the same. The contrapuntal objectivism disappears into the mightier force, which feels spiritual, but what spirit? This is a devastating record. The listener is left spent and unsure of what he or she has heard afterward, except that this is an avant-garde no one knew existed. Truly awesome. |
